Shivani G Patel, PsyD, MHA

Dr. Shivani Patel has worked in mental health and mainstream health care for twenty-five years across a variety of settings, including community mental health, school, forensic, hospital and substance abuse programs.  She specializes in working with complex trauma victims of multiple ages. Dr. Patel has also worked in a variety of administrative capacities and has developed significant expertise in teaching, consultation, clinical supervision, program management and business process consulting.  Dr. Patel is certified in several evidenced-based practices as both an individual clinician and champion supervisor.  She currently serves as a licensed psychologist for different Kaiser Intensive Outpatient Programs, licensed clinical supervisor for practicum and pre-doctoral students and she is a Qualified Medical Examiner for the State of California.  Prior to joining Kaiser, Dr. Patel served as Program Administrator for four years at Telecare Lagos, a 16-bed crisis residential program in Riverside, California where she helped lead the county’s efforts in maintaining high standards and treatment outcomes, as well as high levels of patient and staff satisfaction during the Covid-19 pandemic.  In fact, she presented at various national conferences about her team’s efforts and success in these areas.  Her other professional roles included Clinical Director of the Telecare Older Adult Prevention & Early Intervention Program for multiple service areas in Los Angeles County where she worked tirelessly as an advocate, champion and key member of health care neighborhood advisory efforts in impoverished and underserved areas.  She has also served as a licensed psychologist at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Child Welfare Division, where she was Program Coordinator for the Treatment Foster Care Program and created several well-regarded trauma trainings which she provided to contracted provider staff throughout the county.  Dr. Patel was also a proud member of Los Angeles County’s Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT) for several years.  Prior to joining the county, Dr. Patel worked as the licensed clinical Administrator of Sovereign Health, a for-profit dual diagnosis residential treatment program in South Orange County.  Dr. Patel completed an APA post-doctoral fellowship at San Francisco General/UCSF focused on complex child trauma.  She also completed an APA pre-doctoral internship at the County of San Bernardino Department of Behavioral Health.  Dr. Patel obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy.  She also has a Master’s in Health Care Administration from the University of Southern California and she completed requirements for two Bachelors of Art’s degrees in Psychology and Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.  She believes her greatest accomplishment is being a proud mama bear to Armaan, her ten year old son, their dog, Obi Wan Kenobi and bearded dragon, Red.  As Armaan often says, it’s quite a zoo at the Patel Palace.
