Motivational Interviewing
Therapy That Transforms Lives
Wings Recovery’s men’s and women’s program clinicians adopt Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a method to help lead clients who are feeling stuck or ambivalent about making a change in their lives. Motivational Interviewing is universally recognized as an effective and less invasive way to help individuals make healthy changes in their lives. If you’re ready to make a change and take the first step on the road to recovery, contact our team today.
What Is Motivational Interviewing?
Motivational Interviewing is geared towards helping clients want to change, developing their own reasons and motivations for it. This requires a collaborative approach where the therapist and client work together with mutual respect.
Key qualities of MI include:
- It is important that clients feel like they still have control and are not being told what to do.
- MI should empower people to change.
- MI should feel natural and go at the client’s pace.
When Is MI Useful?
MI has many use cases and can be very beneficial when:
- Someone is afraid of the change being inacted
- A client worries that they may not be able to change
- A person feels that change is not needed
