Most traditional therapies work primarily with the mind, but at Wings, we believe it’s important to include mind, body, and spirit to maintain emotional balance.
That’s why we include body-based treatments like acupuncture, yoga, and nutrition in our program, as well as opportunities to grow in your spirituality through meditation and mindfulness training.
Types of Holistic Therapy
Here are some of the holistic therapies we offer at Wings:
Nutrition therapy: Whether you are in recovery from an eating disorder, or just want to support your mental and physical health, you will have the opportunity learn from our Registered Dietician either individually or in our Nutrition Group.
Yoga: Many women enjoy yoga as way to stretch and balance not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well! All yoga classes are taught by a registered yoga teacher from a local studio.
Meditation and mindfulness: Mindfulness meditation is a 2000+ year old technique for calming the mind and seeing this present moment just as it is. Mindfulness practice is proven to reduce stress as well as symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing art that works with the body’s qi energy. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, acupuncture has been proven effective (alone or combination with other treatments) for conditions including anxiety, depression, addictive disorders, chronic pain, and fibromyalgia.
Equine Therapy: In Equine therapy, you learn to groom, care for, and ride horses as a therapeutic activity. As prey animals, horses are very sensitive to human energy, and feedback from horses can teach you to better regulate your emotions and how you relate to others.
Rock to Recovery: In this awesome music therapy group, you and your peers will work together in a fun, collaborative environment to craft and perform your very own songs. No previous experience or musical talent required!
Art Therapy: In art therapy groups, you will work with a variety of media to express your feelings in a new way. Our certified art therapist will help you develop your creative process even if you have no artistic “talent” or previous experience.
Improv Group: Have you ever been to an improv comedy show and thought, “I wish I could do that?” Regardless of your current level of confidence (or lack thereof!), improve group will teach you the skills to be more spontaneous and creative in your everyday life.
